I am a Private Wealth Advisor of Ameriprise Financial and I am seeking an Associate Financial Advisor (AFA) to support services to advisory clients in the Ottumwa, IA area. The ideal candidate will be currently licensed, have industry experience, and a desire to grow in the financial planning industry. Desire to attain the Certified Financial Planner TM practitioner designation in the future is a plus.
The Associate Financial Advisor position is an instrumental role in the smooth operation of a fast-paced—and friendly—financial planning office. The Associate Financial Advisor helps the Advisor support the Advisor’s client base by adhering to the office’s financial planning workflow, submitting related financial transactions, and new business processing. Simultaneously the AFA will build client relationships by supporting clients through managing and gathering client data, will prepare client deliverables, and work with clients to resolve issues. This role will manage the day-to-day activities of staff including, but not limited to, conducting weekly touch points and other practice management activities, as needed.
This role works as an employee of an independent advisor franchisee with a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial. This position will consistently follow high standards of business and professional ethics as well as legal and regulatory requirements when dealing with others and/or performing work activities. This role will take the lead in managing practice management functions essential to a small business. The AFA will respond to ad hoc requests, coordinate/track projects and/or manage business-as-usual projects. The AFA will also be responsible for following up on marketing leads and prospects.
40% Financial Planning & Advice
Prepare preliminary client meeting agendas and initial product solutions for advisor review and use in client meetings.
Prepare charts, graphs, tables and other visual aids to be used in implementation meetings with clients.
Answer questions and provide readily available information to clients, if requested and as allowable, as it relates to servicing their accounts.
Perform case analysis and develop preliminary recommendations.
40% Client Care & Case Management
Maintain client contact during the financial planning process. Answer questions and provide readily available information to clients, if requested and as allowable, as it relates to servicing their accounts
Review and update client information as needed for client review meetings. Attend and participate in client meetings.
Support lead advisor with portfolio management task including trades, portfolio rebalancing and supporting deliverable development for the clients.
Manage and resolve client service requests.
Implement client solutions to reach client’s goals.
Perform other allowable duties as assigned by the financial advisor(s) through the office workflow systems.
Review and respond to emails as necessary.
Review work methods and procedures for possible quality improvements and efficiencies; implement them when appropriate
Assign and delegate work and provide feedback, when appropriate, to other support staff
Within 2 years, expectation is that the successful candidate will be the main servicing advisor for a portion of the Advisor’s book of business.
20% Marketing & Office Management Support
Participate in office level marketing efforts such as seminars and events as needed to support the efforts.
Assist as needed with administrative and compliance activities related to marketing events.
Assist with social media, website, and similar marketing areas as needed.
Provide backup support to other staff as needed.

Education and Other Designations:
Enrolled in 4-year bachelor’s degree program or higher
2+ years of similar experience
Already have or ability to obtain federal and state licenses and registrations for securities, including Series 7, Series 66, and State life, accident and health insurance licenses within 3 months of hire
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Must be willing to undergo a background check.
Additional Salary Information: Compensation dependent on skill level and designations acquired.
